I use multiple computers connected to a single display. Sometimes I access them remotely, then I don’t want the monitor to automatically switch away from my current computer, but sometimes I want to use the other computer directly. So the standard automatic input switch does not work nicely, but a better switch would still have to guess correctly which computer is in active use when both went into display standby. A better heuristic would be to switch to switch inputs only if the new input is the only one active, and don’t switch automatically as long as the current one remains active.
